Part of Enpowergy is ‘JEM’ or Journal, Exercise, and Meditate. Recently I made the decision to reunite myself with a higher education and back to school I have journeyed. As fate might have it, seemingly all other consistent areas in my life have either multiplied in challenges or duplicated in complexities. What was normally challenging has become even more so than ever before.
Enter JEM, because when I feel a certain level of enormous amount of pressure, I head to JEM.
How does JEM work? I find especially when it’s winter and I can’t be as active, the importance of journal. The physical action of writing something down. How powerful the release is mentally when you are writing out your thoughts. And yet how much energy can get pent up when you are unable to be physically active, and so even the most simplest of exercise has in creating balance in the body. And in the shortest amount of time, spending 2 minutes to 20, meditating finishes the balancing act and helps reconnect the mind with the body with the soul.
So as I dread the next paper or the 200 pages I have to read by tomorrow, after 8 hours of work and spending a bit of time cooking a good meal for my family and running a load of laundry. Before ‘hitting’ the books I find that my health and ability to stay functional during the day, how important finding time to take some personal notes, take the stairs instead of the elevator and to spend a couple of moments to breath and settle my heart rate just a bit, really is.
Enpowergy is definitely about energy and endurance. As a walker my motivation is fairly simple, to get outside and enjoy the journey or adventure for each walk. Literally walking for hours at a time, one can find many strange happenings along the way. At some point going for a walk wasn’t enough, that lead to registering for area “walk/runs.”
Spending three hours on a course is not unusual (as a walker enduring 13.1 miles) and is such an agonizing and yet highly compelling reason to participate. The stuff one sees is most certainly motivation enough to attend…if only I could jounal while moving! However that is also the reason as a self-proclaimed “walker” that I tried “running” and in many ways found the process easier than walking. Ironic as it is, the time spent walking is equal to time running. Never will I finish first and proudly can still claim have yet to finish last. But that’s only because my brain hasn’t determined that as an option…yet!
Regardless of the amount of energy exuded, to this day the races completed have each come with a story. Whether it is the weather being faced, an unlimited supply of nature, being a closet-people watcher or having the opportunity to see how the “other half” live or move is a perk of competing. Why else would one attempt to finish one of these wild occurrences? If only one can win, why worry about coming in first? And if “winning” means that you are so focused it means you can’t stop and take a picture of a great idea or high five every hand in your path or even take a break for a hug that someone has to give you because they are trying to encourage you to not give up…why would you pay and avoid all the great opportunities available along the way? That would be like running past a water station when you are struggling with dehydration, just wrong!
Enpowergy means to endure during life’s many challenges. To empower and be empowered for you and others. All with energy.
Each day it’s JEM…Journal, Exercise and Meditate!
Too many times the narration that happens in our heads, is absolutely the reason for our many limitations in life.
With any scenario that happens in your life, do you hear ‘chatter’ in you head during and after? Do you wish you would have said something different? Did you notice the other persons accessories and not their message? Were you distracted and now concerned you may have upset the other party? All too often those worrisome comments and negative thoughts chime into your head at the strangest times and are in part what is holding you back from realizing your true authentic self.
Life shouldn’t be about regret, worry or fears. Life is worth living…so why not start taking back your life and that vital part of you, your mind and start attracting what you really want in your life. How?
Negative thoughts ‘confuse’ your focus and if you are unfocused you are not achieving your goals, finishing conversations, completing your life’s mission. For example, if you are constantly rehashing an argument in your head…frustrated, upset, angry, worried are some of the emotions you may be experiencing. If you are ‘stuck’ on the argument, you aren’t focused on what’s really important such as forgiveness and moving on. You are thus unable to focus completely on what is really important such as promoting a strong compassionate relationship.
One of the best ways to overcome this vicious cycle of negativity and lack of clarity is to journal about it. Notice and write down every time you have a negative thought. There are times at night when I’m awaken by something and can’t return to sleep. That is when I have noticed I have the most ‘chatter’ in my head. It’s also the time that I work the hardest to thank my maker for all I have, the warmth of the bed, the comfort of my pillows and soon I am back to sleep. During the day I have found another useful tactic to negative self-talk is to as soon as I realize it is happening to instantly change my thoughts. Maybe a conversation didn’t end as I had hoped and start reflecting on how they looked, how they acted, etc I start hoping to understand what others have going on that may impact why they are acting as they did or for what they said. It is equally important to wish the very best for them. Gratitude will amend your mood and your clarity.
Give it a try, you will be amazed at how quickly what you want you are finally able to focus on.
Enpowergy is a connection of words that when combined create a word that embodies the values that I live by. Enpowergy=Enduring+Empowered+Energy. Every step is enduring, empowered and full of energy!
This blog will be a feature of thoughts and discussions that focus on these values, sidesteps from time to time into life and lifestyle and treads rightly with a large mix of another love, walking. So please take time to follow the stories and thoughts that may just strike a nerve and make you think. Or at the very least, make you want to ponder and go for a walk.
Life is a lot like the weather. If you only wait for those sunny warm days, you may miss most of the experience!
